What was convened at Lakefront

What was convened

re-Membering for Planetary Health was an invitational week at Emerge Lakefront, Stockholm, 28 July – 2 August 2025, convened extitutionally with Planet.Health. Its aim was to share and develop practices for weaving a field of care within communities, and to offer them as patterns for implementation and replication with network nations and local generative AI.

This page recreates the shape of that convening from its invitation: the concepts it carried, the patterns it set out to explore, the way trust was held, and the kinds of knowledge and institution brought into one room. It names no one. Those invited are described only by the fields they work in, never by person, role, affiliation or project.

The call, as a flow

The invitation reads as one continuous movement, from tending a field of care to a flourishing that is planetary and still rooted in place.

  1. 1WeaveA field of care within communities.
  2. 2CompostCollective maladaptive patterns, turned to soil.
  3. 3CultivateAn emotional ecology, attuned to local culture.
  4. 4ResonateTranslocal harmonics, from place to place.
  5. 5FlourishPlanetary flourishing through right relationship, rooted in place.

Concepts carried

Translocal and polycentric

many centres

No single institution, technology or movement can answer planetary health alone. The call was for many centres that keep cultural diversity while still acting in concert.

Sovereignty and interdependence

both, together

Governance that honours the self-determination of each community and the web that binds them, with common resources stewarded across space and time.

Technologies that serve life

infrastructures of relationality

Networks and AI imagined as grounded in the soil of culture and nourished by a mycelium of care, rather than as platforms that extract from it.

Composting and liberation

past into soil

Practices for composting what no longer serves and freeing what comes next, held by trust, narrative and shared governance, the trunk from which trees of right regard, action and relationship grow.

Patterns to explore

01

Commons

held in common

Resource pools for planetary health and wellness, owned by no one and tended by many.

02

Governance

difference and cohesion

Frameworks that honour difference and still enable cohesion, instead of resolving one into the other.

03

Local-first technology

peer to peer

Tools that let any place build its own communication space, and the AIs that live inside it, without handing data or cultural control to a central platform.

04

Care chains

mycelial and above ground

Chains of care rooted in interbeing and reciprocity, running underground and in plain sight.

Figure 3. Four patterns. After the invitation.

Beside these, the invitation pointed to place-based projects already unfurling in communities across Southeast Asia, North America, Aotearoa New Zealand, Brazil and Colombia: rites of passage, a house of spiritual health, bioregional assemblies, an eco-social care currency, and ceremonial time capsules for future ancestors.

How trust was held

Trust was structural, not declared: a room small enough for everyone to know everyone, priced only to cover the week’s food, and lightly structured so that its rhythm came from those present.

  1. IInvitationCurated with care and primarily by invitation: a small room chosen, not advertised.
  2. IIShared tableFifteen places, single rooms, shared meals, travel carried by each guest.
  3. IIIOpen spaceMorning grounding, self-led offerings, workshops and co-design, with the week’s rhythm emerging from those attending.
  4. IVCeremony and restFireside conversation, music and ceremony, with time for rest, reflection and embodied integration.

Who was in the room

The invitation introduced each guest by name. This page does not. What can be said without singling anyone out is the breadth of fields that met, listed here in no order, and not as a roll call: most people stood in more than one at once.

  • clinical practice and public health
  • planetary and environmental health research
  • human rights and climate scholarship
  • AI research and machine-learning engineering
  • AI policy, ethics and governance
  • computational and legal design
  • institution design and rights of nature
  • decentralised and cooperative technology
  • complexity science and statistics
  • art, myth and ritual
  • architecture and the built environment
  • philosophy and writing
  • facilitation, coaching and leadership
  • regenerative land, finance and bioregioning
  • climate justice and spiritual ecology
  • traditional ecological knowledge
Figure 5. Fields represented, unordered. The invitation’s own list of who it was for: planetary health, decentralised or cooperative technologies, traditional ecological knowledge and spiritual practice, policy, law and economics aligned with care, complex systems and positive tipping points, and art, story, rites of passage and new myths.

Institutional and extitutional flows

Most people arrived carrying an institution. The gathering was built so that the institution stayed in the background and the relations between institutions came forward.

  1. IInstitutionalUniversities, research labs, public bodies, companies, foundations and legal bodies: the affiliations people brought in, held lightly for the week.
  2. IIExtitutionalNetworks, residencies, commons, communities of practice, ceremony and art: relations that run between and across institutions, where no one of them speaks for the whole.
  3. IIIThe space betweenA living laboratory placed as a hinge in time between a residency on network nations and one on a social contract for AGI, asking what must be composted, seeded and grown in between.
Figure 6. Institutional, extitutional and the space between. After the invitation.

To say the gathering was convened extitutionally with Planet.Health is to say the same thing at the scale of the convening itself: it ran across and between bodies, not under any one of them.

What flowed on

The conceptual interweaving of that week is part of how the term xenohealth arose (see the term and its origin), and it leads on to the paper and to the residency week planned at Feÿtopia in 2027 (see the lineage).
